Arthur Katterjohn

Arthur Katterjohn served as Joliet West’s first band director, serving from its opening in 1964 until 1968. Mr. Katterjohn graduated "cum laude" from the University of Michigan in 1951 and received a master’s in music in 1952. He was a member of the Michigan Band under the leadership of Dr. William D. Revelli. Later, he completed an advanced graduate study at Northern Illinois University in 1974. He first served as band director in Saline, Michigan for 13 years before directing at the West Campus. In 1968, he left after he was appointed assistant professor and director of the Wheaton College Band. Mr. Katterjohn was a member of American Bandmasters Association, Illinois Music Educators Association, the National Band Association, and was a national division officer of the College Band Directors National Association. He also served as a staff conductor at the National Music Camp in Interlochen, Michigan. Since 1970, he was conductor of the Adult Concert Band in Palatine Illinois. He died in 1980 at age 50.
