Wow, it’s August again.  The months seem to fly by faster and faster.  Joliet Central’s Air Quality project is just about finished.  The Centennial Celebration is just under three years away.  The next thing we know, it’ll be just around the corner!  It’ll be a great concert in a wonderfully air-conditioned incredibly beautiful and acoustically grand auditorium.  We’re still working hard at locating as many alumni as we can.  If you know someone who was in band with you and you want to make sure they’re involved, please send us their email or mailing address so that we can add them to our contact list.  The more we have participating, the more we can do and the better time we’ll all have!

On the topic of good times, the first annual Band Alumni Picnic was held June 20 at Inwood Park.  Way too much food, great games and lots of catching up with old friends, the 40 or so that attended had a great time.  We hope to see many, many more alumni and current students next year!  We’re already talking about including a bags tournament, and if we can convince any of the directors to sit in a dunk tank, well….anything could happen!

With the summer coming to a close, it’s time to plan for the Annual Meeting.  This year we’ll be holding the meeting on Sunday, September 27, 2009.  The meeting will be held at Maurie’s Table in Joliet, beginning at 6:00pm.  Join us for dinner, planning and discussion about the past, the future and most importantly the Centennial Year!

As a pre-requisite to the Annual Meeting, ‘tis time to step up to the top of the stairs (for all of you JT and Central alums) and join the BAA for 2010!  When you return the enclosed form, please indicate which renewal you are using (1 yr - $10, 5 yr - $45 or 10 yr - $80) and enclose your check for the proper amount.  Your dues go towards all of the yearly mailings, the donations to our JT Bands, the website (www.jthsbaa.org ) and many other things!

Thinking of the website, have you visited recently?  We’re constantly adding and changing things and it’s looking like a great place to get information on our organization.  Please let us know if you have suggestions, additions or corrections.  Also, if you have pictures you’d like posted, please sent them to gene@jthsbaa.org .  Most importantly on the website is a link to our Google calendar.  We’re posting all meetings, working sessions and other events that we’d like to see you attend.  Please drop by and give us a hand!!

If you flip this page over, you’ll see a listing of all the events we’re aware of through the end of the year.  There are many different things for you to choose from including concerts, parades, field show competitions and most importantly, *fundraisers*.  The BAA is planning a Scotch Doubles bowling fundraiser on Sunday, October 18, 2009, 1:00pm at Joliet’s Town & Country Lanes.  We are raising funds to look towards a scholarship program for graduating JTHS Band students, locating alumni, continuing our donations to the JT Bands and much more!  Please come join us for an exciting afternoon of bowling, camaraderie, snacks and more!!!  Please make reservations by October 1 to attend.
